Is there anything unusual about your character's mind that is immediately obvious? Roland shares a soul with someone else in another world, and I've always taken that to mean that his soulmate takes precedence to his inner world and thoughts. So even with the most powerful telepathy, it wouldn't be impossible but it'd feel weird in a sense that looking at his mind feels like there's someone else in there, blocking Roland from view. Something ancient and archaic, territorial in that it wants to protect their bond from external tampering.
What kind of mental impression might your character give off? Roland's mental impression resembles a deep, midnight garden bathed in moonlight. When it's dark, it's pitch black. But when the moonlight hits you in the places it should, it's as bright as the sun. And when you can traverse it, opening locked gates and walking cobblestone paths that threaten to lose you, you will find an enclave by the middle of tranquil waters, warmer than anything else.
Do you want to potentially do something with accidental thought-hearing or other closer-than-arm's-length telepathy nonsense? There's room for it! Roland is a very reserved person, especially when you've just met, but I never say no potential shenanigans. Something to talk about if/when it will come up.

Does your character have a computer or other potentially corruptible device that you might want to have messed around with? He has a 21st century Earth-grade smartphone, and has recently been gifted a Zanarkand-brand tablet with multiple media functions. I suppose between the two, he would be more inclined to mess around with the cellphone.
